Located near Apple Road and 58th Road between Hallam and Clatonia, this small through girder bridge is the northernmost crossing of Clatonia Creek.
Built in 1900 to replace an older wooden trestle, the bridge follows a standard design. It features a single through plate girder span, with standard rounded edges and elongated concrete abutments.
Spans like this are common for small waterway and roadway crossings. Simple to construct, they are also easy to maintain and will last 100 years or more.
Several forks of Clatonia Creek rise in the immediate area, and the rail line crosses the creek four more times before DeWitt.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition. Little serious deterioration was noted anywhere on the bridge.
The author has ranked the bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
